Introducing The Junkipedia Monitoring System
A short tour of Junkipedia's monitoring interface
The Junkipedia monitoring system allows users to view content from Facebook and Instagram (via the CrowdTangle API), YouTube, and TikTok without having to log into the sites or use the apps. Just like you can create lists of users to follow on Twitter or CrowdTangle, Junkipedia users can create lists of accounts from these platforms, as well as lists of hashtags or search terms. The monitoring system pulls this content into a single unified feed within Junkipedia for easy monitoring.
Users will first want to create lists to monitor, import a CrowdTangle list to follow, or follow public lists created by other users. You can also organize your lists into folders.
Once you've created or followed lists, content should appear in your main monitoring feed at junkipedia.org/monitoring. In the left side panel, you'll see all of the lists you currently follow. To the right in the main feed, you will see all of the posts associated with your lists. Check or uncheck lists in the left panel to include or exclude their content from the main feed.
Search, Sort, and Filter Content
At the top, you'll see several ways to search, sort, and filter content in the main feed.
Enter any term into the search bar to surface posts that contain that word. If you are following any YouTube channel lists, the system will also search the YouTube videos' automated transcripts for the term, in addition to title and description text.
You can also sort posts by newest, oldest, and engagement (posts with the most views, likes, comments, shares will appear first).
There are also several ways of filtering content:
Platform: Select a platform from the dropdown menu to see only content from that particular platform.
Post Type: Select video, status, photo, live video scheduled, live video, or link to see only posts that contain that type of content
Engagements: Select a value from the dropdown menu to see only content that has received at least that much engagement. For example, if I only want to see content that has received more than 1,000 views/ likes/ comments/ shares, I would select ">1K."
Age: Select a date parameter from the dropdown menu to see only content created within that time frame. For example, if I only wanted to see content published with in the last week, I would select "last week."
Monitor Content
You can view content, including video, directly within the main monitoring feed. If you would like to view the original post, click the platform logo on the top right of the post. At the bottom of the post, you'll see all of the available engagement data: views, reactions (e.g., likes and dislikes) comments, and favorites.
Add Content to Junkipedia
If you've found a post you'd like to add to Junkipedia, simply click "Add as tip."
Channel Page
The channel page will give you additional information about a specific channel or account you've added to a monitoring list. To view a channel's page, simply click their channel name in any post.
The channel page displays the channels name, a link to the channel, any lists the channel belongs to, when the channel was first created, the total number of posts the channel has published, a description (if they've created one), and overall channel engagement data (total subscribers/likes, total views, total posts published, total comments), and whether or not the channel is currently public. Beneath, you'll see a feed of all posts published by the channel.
